Steve Finkernagel Alex Hoops finished 6-for-7 in two games vs. SUNY Canton LADY COLONELS SMACK SIX HOME RUNS AS THEY TAKE TWO FROM SUNY CANTON 4/19/2014 8:12:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LADY COLONELS SMACK SIX HOME RUNS AS THEY TAKE TWO FROM SUNY CANTON EDWARDSVILLE, PA – Wilkes showed their power at the plate as they hit six home runs in two games to propel them to a non-conference sweep over visiting SUNY Canton on Saturday.The Lady Colonels are now on a season high five-game winning streak as they improve to 9-21 on the year. Canton sees themselves fall to 5-16 this season. Wilkes wasted little time putting runs up on the board as they put a four spot on the board in the bottom of the 1st. Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) singled in Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) with the first run of the game. After loading the bases Wilkes benefited from a Roos error on a potential 1-2-3 double play as the catchers throw sailed into right field allowing Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) to score from second. Brooke Limeberry (Easton, PA/Easton) ripped a two-RBI single extending the lead to 4-0. Sharon Cordero and the Roos got a run back in the top of the 2nd when she bunted safely to third. In the bottom of the second the Lady Colonels displayed their power as Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) and Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) led off with back-to-back home runs to left. The bottom of the 3rd saw Wilkes go back-to-back again as Limeberry and Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) hit home runs to left center extending the lead to 8-1. The Lady Colonels scored three more runs in the inning pushing the lead to 11-1.With the eight-run rule in effect the Roos did not back down as they scored three runs in the top of the 5th thanks in part to Shannon Dowling hitting a two-run home run and Kristyn Reynolds hitting an RBI single scoring Rhea Coad. Wilkes needing one run in the bottom half of the 5th to put eight run rule into effect got the final run on a Hoops single up the middle that scored Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) and giving the Lady Colonels a 12-4 game one win.Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) and Hoops both had 4-for-4 efforts in game one. Bixler scored four runs and knocked in two runs. Limeberry had two hits and three RBI's. Bixler notched her fourth win of the season as she went five innings allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out eight.Phillips hit her second home run of the day to lead off the bottom of the first in game two helping her own cause as she took the circle for the Lady Colonels. Canton tied the game in the top of the 2nd with Wilkes responding for three runs in the bottom half of the 2nd. Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) hit the Lady Colonels sixth homer of the day giving Wilkes a 2-1 advantage. Jenna Graziano (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) extended the lead to 3-1 when she laced a single up the middle scoring Katie Brown (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke). Graziano scored the fourth run of the game when she scored on a wild pitch. Borger hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 4th pushing the lead to 5-1. Wilkes scored three more runs in the bottom of the 5th and Canton was unable to push any runs across the plate over their last two at-bats as Wilkes went on to win game two 8-1.Graziano finished 3-for-4 in game two while Phillips, Hoops and Casara McCleaf (Fairfield, PA/Delone Catholic) all had two-hit games. Phillips picked up the win allowing two hits and one earned run in four innings. Kisela finished the final three innings allowing no Roos to reach base, retiring all nine batters she faced.Wilkes welcomes PSU Hazleton to the Ralston Athletic Complex on Wednesday evening for a 5:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader.
