WILKES SOFTBALL FALLS TWICE IN TWO ONE-RUN GAMES AT MISERICORDIA

DALLAS, PA – Host Misericordia University took game one 1-0 in a pitcher's duel before holding on 8-7 despite a furious Wilkes University comeback attempt in game two to post a sweep of the Lady Colonels Saturday afternoon at Anderson Field.

Wilkes drops to 10-24 overall and concludes Freedom Conference play with a 2-12 mark.

It was a pitcher's duel in game one as Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) and Bailee Schies tossed solid outings allowing five hits and three hits respectively between the two. Megan Hardy's solo home run in the fourth proved to be the difference in the game as Wilkes had a runner on third twice but could not plate the tying run with a key hit.

Wilkes took a quick 3-0 lead in game two thanks to a three-run homer from Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley). Misericordia responded in the bottom half of the frame scoring five runs to take back the advantage 5-3 after one.

Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) connected on an RBI single to centerfield in the fifth plating Makenna Rushannon (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville) to cut the deficit to 6-4. Misericordia then scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead back to four at 8-4.

From there Wilkes began its furious comeback attempt in the top of the seventh. A. Bixler walked and Borger doubled to put runners on second and third. Hoops then tripled to right field scoring both runners to cut the lead to 8-6. Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) followed with an RBI single scoring Hoops to make it a one-run game with one out. The Wilkes rally ended short as Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) struck out looking and L. Bixler was caught stealing to end the game.

L. Bixler led the Wilkes offense going 3-for-4 with one RBI. Hoops finished 2-for-3 with three RBI while Borger added two hits and two RBI.

Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) suffered the loss in the circle going all six innings allowing eight runs on 16 hits striking out two batters.

Wilkes travels to Scranton, Pa. tomorrow (Sunday) to play a non-conference doubleheader at Marywood University starting at 1:00 p.m.
