BIXLER BREAKS HOME RUN RECORD AS WILKES SOFTBALL CONCLUDES SEASON WITH SWEEP OF BAPTIST BIBLE

EDWARDSVILLE – Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) became the school's all-time leader in home runs belting her 27th and 28th career long balls in a game two win as Wilkes University posted a sweep of visiting Baptist Bible College Monday night at the Ralston Athletic Complex. Wilkes claimed an 11-1 victory in five innings in game one before posting an 8-0 win in game two.

Wilkes finishes its 2014 campaign with a 14-24 overall record following the sweep.

Wilkes did all of its damage in the first three innings of game one to jump out to an 11-0 lead they would never relinquish. Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) opened the scoring with an RBI double to left field scoring Makenna Rushannon (Pottsville, PA/Pottsville).

Lacey Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) added an RBI on a fielder's choice later in the inning plating Borger as Wilkes led 2-0 after one.

The Lady Colonels scored four runs in the second thanks to a two-run double from Borger and RBI doubles from Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) and Rushannon.

Wilkes finished its scoring in the third as five more runs crossed the plate in the frame. Casara McCleaf (Fairfield, PA/Delone Catholic) connected on an RBI single and A. Bixler followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Jenna Graziano (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne). Hoops drilled her second double of the game, this time a two-run shot to left center as Wilkes pushed the lead to 11-0.

Borger and Hoops led the offense in game one with two hits each. Haylie Phillips (Rome, PA/Northeast Bradford) earned the win in the circle going two innings scattering three hits not allowing a run. Ashley Eden (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) and Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) combined to pitch the final three innings allowing three hits and one run.

A. Bixler wasted little time to set the career mark in game two leading off with a long home run off the scoreboard in right field to become the school's all-time leader in long balls. She passed Gina Stefanelli '10 who held the record with 26 home runs. It also marked the tenth home run of the season for Bixler.

Kisela added a two-run double later in the first to up the Wilkes lead to 3-0. Paskas connected on an RBI single in the second to extend the advantage to 4-0 after two frames.

A. Bixler connected on her second home run of the game in the fifth lifting a deep fly over the right center field fence as Wilkes led 5-0.

Wilkes pushed the lead to 7-0 in the bottom of the fifth as A. Bixler brought in her third RBI on a single up the middle and Eden added an RBI base hit to centerfield.

Hannah DiFresco then ended the game in the sixth with an RBI single to centerfield.

A. Bixler picked up the win in the circle going all six innings for Wilkes.

Wilkes wraps up its 2014 season and will return all but four players from this year's squad next season.
