Steve Finkernagel Alysha Bixler picked up the win in game two while going 2-for-3 from the plate WILKES SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM JOHN JAY 4/6/2014 5:34:00 PM Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WILKES SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM JOHN JAY EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University softball team got back on the winning track sweeping a pair of games from John Jay College in non-conference action from the Ralston Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon. Wilkes clinched game one 10-2 in six innings before posting a 7-6 comeback win in game two. Wilkes improves to 4-16 overall on the season while John Jay dropped to 4-10 on the year. After John Jay scored two runs in the top of the first, Jordan Borger (Kunkletown, PA/Pleasant Valley) put Wilkes on the board with an RBI groundout scoring Alysha Bixler (Williamstown, PA/Williams Valley) in Wilkes' first at-bats. Alex Hoops (Mountaintop, PA/Crestwood) then doubled home Borger to tie the game at 2-2 after one inning of play. Ally Paskas (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) gave Wilkes its first lead at 3-2 on a sacrifice fly to centerfield in the second. Bixler then added her second triple of the game scoring Jenna Graziano (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) on the play as the Lady Colonels led 4-2 after two. John Jay looked to chip away at the Wilkes lead in the third, but Bixler threw out a runner at the plate following a single to centerfield. In the bottom of the fourth Paskas added another RBI hit singling home Graziano and Bixler reached on an error scoring Paskas to up the Wilkes lead to 7-2. The Lady Colonels closed out the game in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs on two hits including a two-run single from Hoops in the game's last at-bat to secure the eight-run victory. Five players recorded two hits each for Wilkes including Paskas, Bixler, Borger, Hoops and Casara McCleaf (Fairfield, PA/Delone Catholic). Meghan Kisela (Schuylkill Haven, PA/Blue Mountain) went five innings in the circle to record the victory allowing six hits while striking out a season-high six batters. Wilkes jumped out to an early lead in game two thanks to a two-run homer from Borger following a Bixler single in the first. After John Jay added a run in the top of the third, Bixler belted a long solo home run over the right centerfield fence to extend the Wilkes lead to 3-1. John Jay used a two-run single in the top of the fourth after loading the bases earlier in the inning to tie the game at 3-3. A two-run double followed to give the Bloodhounds a 6-3 advantage. Wilkes responded in the bottom of the sixth scoring four runs on four hits. Bixler connected on a two-run double and Borger added a sacrifice fly for the eventual game-winner. Bixler and Borger combined to go 4-for-6 with six of the seven RBI's for Wilkes in the game two victory. Bixler also recorded the win in the circle going three innings allowing three hits and one run striking out five.
