WILKES MEN'S TENNIS WINS SEVENTH STRAIGHT FREEDOM TITLE WITH 5-1 VICTORY OVER KING'S

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team captured its seventh straight Freedom Conference Championship posting a 5-1 victory over King's College Saturday afternoon at the Ralston Athletic Complex.

Wilkes improves to 18-1 overall on the year and will await word on its destiny for the NCAA National Tournament on Monday.

The Colonels took a 2-1 lead after doubles play thanks to wins from No. 2 pairs Alex Makos (Mansfield, PA/Mansfield) and Steven Wilson (Bronx, NY/JFK) (8-2) and No. 3 Micharl Kranz and Brendon Blachowski (Newtown, PA /Council Rock North) (8-2).

Tournament MVP Blachowski earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6 to begin singles as Wilkes pushed its lead to 3-1. Dominic Parfianowicz (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4 before Kranz clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3.

Wilkes has now won the past seven Freedom championships dating back to the 2007-08 season.
