On Tuesday night, Wilkes began its postseason with a fresh approach and battled with top seed Misericordia all match forcing overtime and a shootout with the three-time defending champion Cougars. Wilkes finished off the upset in the shootout posting a 5-3 win to reach the title game keeping its season alive for one more contest. Wilkes and DeSales met earlier this season in Center Valley, Pa. where the Bulldogs broke open a 1-1 contest midway through the second half scoring three unanswered goals to preserve the 4-1 victory. Wilkes looks to avenge the defeat in its first trip to the finals since 2005 when the Lady Colonels captured the first title in program history. This meeting will mark the second time the two squads have met in the postseason tournament with Wilkes claiming a 2-1 win in the semifinals in 2008. Wilkes will look to ride the back of senior goalie Kate Mahoney (Kingston, NH/Central Catholic), who played a crucial role in keeping the game scoreless against Misericordia making a season-high 12 saves. The Wilkes offense will be paced by Micaela Oliverio (Carlisle, PA/Trinity) and Nicolette Towlen (Ewing, NJ/Ewing) who each have recorded 10 points on the year. DeSales is led by its scoring forward Rachel Shive who has posted a MAC Freedom high 37 points on 17 goals and three assists. Shive had a banner day against the Lady Colonels in the win earlier this year notching all four goals in the victory. Winner of the match will be crowned the 2015 MAC Freedom champions and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament scheduled to begin next week.Print Friendly Version Players Mentioned #8 Micaela Oliverio F Sophomore #1 Kate Mahoney GK Senior #27 Nicolette Towlen F First Year Players Mentioned #8 Micaela Oliverio Sophomore F #1 Kate Mahoney Senior GK #27 Nicolette Towlen First Year F
