Colonel Baseball Outlasted in 11 Innings 4-3 at F&M

LANCASTER, PA – After rallying to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the seventh, visiting Wilkes University allowed the game-winning tally to cross the plate on a walk in the bottom of the eleventh as host Franklin and Marshall escaped with a 4-3 victory Tuesday afternoon at Caplan Field.

Wilkes slips to 3-6 overall following the road defeat while F&M improves its overall mark to 9-3 on the year after the extra-inning win.

F&M opened a 3-0 lead after four innings of play thanks to two RBI bunt singles and an RBI triple to right field.

Wilkes responded with one run in the top of the fifth as Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) singled up the middle scoring James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) to cut the lead to 3-1.

Two innings later the Colonels completed the comeback as Zak Berg (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) began the frame with an RBI double down the left field line scoring Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston). Three batters  later Clymer added an RBI fly out to plate Brown to tie the game at 3-3.

The game went into extra innings before F&M began its game-winning rally in the bottom of the eleventh. A single started the inning before a fly out and another single put runners on first and third with one out. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, F&M drew a walk with nowhere to put the runner as the game-winning run crossed the plate.

Wilkes finished with six hits including two from Brown. Berg and Clymer (2) added RBI's.

Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) suffered the loss on the hill pitching the final two innings of the game. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) started going four innings allowing seven hits and three earned runs.

Wilkes returns to the diamond tomorrow (Wednesday) traveling to Penn State Brandywine for a nine-inning game starting at 4:00 p.m.
