Colonel Baseball Falls 6-1 to Bethany in Spring Break Finale
 
FORT PIERCE, FL – Bethany College scored four runs in the first inning and added two more insurance runs in the eighth to seal a 6-1 win over Wilkes University Saturday afternoon in the Colonels spring break finale.
 
Wilkes concludes its one week spring break trip with a 3-5 overall record.
 
Bethany scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back using four RBI singles to do the damage in the opening frame.
 
After Bethany upped its lead to 6-0 with two more runs in the eighth, Wilkes clawed back scoring one run in the bottom half of the eighth when Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) singled home Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer). Bethany then shut the door in the ninth to preserve the five-run victory.
 
Ryan Meier was the highlight of the game for Bethany throwing seven strong innings allowing no runs scattering five hits while striking out nine batters.
 
Ruch and Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist) posted two hits each for Wilkes.
 
Wilkes used six pitchers in the nine-inning game with Johnny Jan Jr. (Germantown, MD/Northwest) suffering the loss facing just six batters in the start.
 
Wilkes opens Freedom play Friday at cross-town rival King's College at 3:30 p.m.
