Baseball Drops a Pair of Freedom Conference Games at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, NY – The Colonels dropped two important Freedom Conference games at the hands of the Valiants of Manhattanville on Saturday, losing game one 7-4 and game two 5-3.

The losses put the Colonels season record at 12-11 overall and 7-4 in the Freedom, while the Valiants improve to 13-10 overall and 7-4 in the Freedom.

In game 1 Manhattanville jumped off to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and the Colonels late rally in the top of the 7th fell just short.  Wilkes had the tying run at the plate in the top of the 7th with just one out but was unable to build off of Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) double and Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) RBI single.

Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) finished with two hits and two runs scored in game 1, with Pisanchyn picking up two hits and three RBI's from the plate.

After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 2nd of game 2 the Colonels tied the game in the top of the 3rd thanks to a Pisanchyn RBI single and Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) single to left.  In the bottom of the 4th Manhattanville scored three unearned runs to go up 5-2 with Wilkes getting just one back in the 5th to make it 5-3.

Clymer, Pisanchyn, Ruch and Reese all knotted two hits in game 2.  Jeff Roedell (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Colonels allowing no hits and just two walks.  Joe Palmeri pitched a complete game for the Valiants allowing 13 hits but just two earned runs.

Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Freedom rival King's for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
