Baseball Drops a Pair of Freedom Conference Games at Manhattanville
PURCHASE, NY – The Colonels dropped two important Freedom Conference games at the hands of the Valiants of Manhattanville on Saturday, losing game one 7-4 and game two 5-3.
The losses put the Colonels season record at 12-11 overall and 7-4 in the Freedom, while the Valiants improve to 13-10 overall and 7-4 in the Freedom.
In game 1 Manhattanville jumped off to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and the Colonels late rally in the top of the 7
th fell just short. Wilkes had the tying run at the plate in the top of the 7
th with just one out but was unable to build off of
Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) double and
Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) RBI single.
Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) finished with two hits and two runs scored in game 1, with Pisanchyn picking up two hits and three RBI's from the plate.
After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the 2
nd of game 2 the Colonels tied the game in the top of the 3
rd thanks to a Pisanchyn RBI single and
Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) single to left. In the bottom of the 4
th Manhattanville scored three unearned runs to go up 5-2 with Wilkes getting just one back in the 5
th to make it 5-3.
Clymer, Pisanchyn, Ruch and Reese all knotted two hits in game 2.
Jeff Roedell (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief for the Colonels allowing no hits and just two walks. Joe Palmeri pitched a complete game for the Valiants allowing 13 hits but just two earned runs.
Wilkes returns to action tomorrow when they travel to Freedom rival King's for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
