Wilkes falls to 16-20 overall following the two defeats. The Colonels took a 2-0 lead in game one after the second inning using a Tom Ring (Massapequa Park, NY/St. John the Baptist) two-run single scoring Joshua Slocum (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) and Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) on the play to gain the advantage. Penn State Harrisburg responded with all three of its runs in the fifth on a two-run home run and RBI double. From there the Penn State Harrisburg pitching staff took over shutting down the high-powered Wilkes offense and escaping with the one-run victory. Reese led Wilkes at the plate going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Stephen Ruch (Dallas, PA/Holy Redeemer) suffered the loss on the hill for the Colonels going five innings allowing three runs on six hits. A big six-run inning in game two gave the hosts all they needed to break open a tight game throughout. Wilkes led 2-1 after five innings following a Joe Champi (Dupont, PA/Pittston) sacrifice fly that scored Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom). PSU Harrisburg then scored six runs in the sixth to break open the game, one on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded and another on a Colonel wild pitch. Reese again had two hits to lead the Wilkes batters in game two. Matt Kaster (Traben-Trabach, Germany/Crestwood) recorded the loss in relief of starter Chris Nixon (Swoyersville, PA/Wyoming Valley West) who went five innings strong allowing just two runs on six hits. Wilkes travels to Scranton, Pa. Monday for a single game against Marywood University starting at 4:00 p.m.Print Friendly Version
