Wilkes moves to 10-9 overall and 7-2 in Freedom games following the split. After the Cougars took a 2-0 lead in the first, Wilkes responded at the plate when Jarret Clymer (Bethlehem, PA/Freedom) doubled down the left field line scoring Joshua Slocum (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights). James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) added an RBI groundout to shortstop to tie the game at 2-2 after three innings. The Cougars added a run in the fourth to take back the lead at 3-2. Dan Pisanchyn (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) then singled to left field scoring Clymer bringing the Colonels back even at 3-3 in the fifth. Misericordia scored three runs in the sixth, including the eventual game-winner as Wilkes managed two runs in the seventh before the final out ended the Colonel comeback. Brown hit an RBI double and Clymer scored on a throwing error by the Cougar pitcher with no outs to bring Wilkes to within one at 6-5. A strikeout and two groundouts ended the Colonel comeback in Wilkes next three at-bats. Clymer led Wilkes with three of its eight hits in the game. Johnny Jan Jr. (Germantown, MD/Northwest) pitched five innings allowing all six runs on six hits suffering the loss. In game two, Wilkes used a six-run seventh inning to preserve the split in the two-game set. With Misericordia leading 1-0 through five innings, Wilkes tied the game in the sixth on a Matthew Reese (Wellsboro, PA/Wellsboro) single to centerfield scoring Marcus Leaf (Reading, PA/Berks Catholic). Misericordia took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth scoring two runs to go up 3-1 heading to the seventh. From there, Wilkes used RBI hits from Ryan Herbst (East Islip, NY/St. John the Baptist), Slocum and James Brown (Covington, PA/North Pocono) along with an RBI groundout from Bobby Scappell to post the six-run frame. Leaf secured the win on the mound pitching the final 1.2 innings scattering two hits keeping the Cougars off the board. Slocum and Reese went 2-for-4 to lead the Wilkes bats in game two. Wilkes travels to Eastern University tomorrow to conclude its season series with the Eagles with a nine-inning game starting at 3:30 p.m.Print Friendly Version
