Wilkes Basketball Plays Host to FDU-Florham Wednesday

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams will host FDU-Florham as Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) continues Wednesday evening at the Marts Center.

The Lady Colonels enter with a 4-15 overall record and 0-8 in the MAC Freedom after a 67-61 loss to Delaware Valley University at the Marts Center Saturday.

Gianna Roberts (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke) led the way with 17 points and a career-high 16 rebounds against the Aggies and is ranked in a tie for 15th in the MAC Freedom scoring 10.0 points-per-game (ppg) and seventh with 7.2 rebounds-per-game (rpg). Alyssa Alfano (Dunmore, PA/Holy Cross) and Catey McFadden (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) are each contributing 9.4 ppg (t-19th). Alfano is the MAC Freedom leader in free-throw percentage in conference games going 29-of-32 for a 90.6 percent success rate. Emily Sofranko (Jim Thorpe, PA/Marian Catholic) and Alfano are tied for the team lead with 2.2 assists-per-game and tied for tenth in the conference.

Wilkes is averaging 58.8 ppg and allowing 76.8 ppg this season.

FDU-Florham is 13-6 overall and tied atop the MAC Freedom standings at 6-2. The Devils defeated Misericordia University 84-61 in Madison, N.J. Saturday.

Kendrea Williams and Gabrielle Harris are the top two scorers in the conference averaging 23.5 ppg and 21.2 ppg respectively. Each player was named MAC Freedom Women's Basketball Player of the Week twice this season. Williams leads the conference in free-throw percentage at 87.2 percent and three-pointers made with 81. Bria Smith is the conference leader in rebounding with 9.5 rpg and Raven Dowling is second in assists with 5.2 apg.

The Devils are scoring 76.7 ppg and giving up 66.2 ppg. FDU-Florham beat Wilkes 90-59 on January 3rd in Madison, N.J.

The Colonels lead the MAC Freedom with a 7-1 record and have a 14-5 overall record this season. Wilkes battled down to the wire in defeating Delaware Valley 58-57 Saturday at home to run its current win streak to four games.

Tommy Bowen (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) and Mason Gross (Pittston, PA/Pittston) combined for 25 points off the bench to lead the comeback victory against the Aggies. Marcus Robinson (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional) and Rob Pecorelli (Huntington, NY/Harborfields) lead the Wilkes attack for the season and are fifth and sixth in the MAC Freedom averaging 14.2 ppg and 14.1 ppg respectively. Robinson is pulling in 5.9 rpg (12th) and has made 44 three-pointers (3rd). Pecorelli adds 5.7 rpg (17th), 2.8 apg (t-5th), and 37 three-pointers made (7th). Mark Mullins (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) averages 12.6 ppg (t-9th), 7.1 rpg (5th), and 1.8 steals-per-game (t-4th). Zach Brunner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg)'s 7.3 rpg rank third in the conference and Connor Evans (Cicero, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) scores in doubles figures with 10.7 ppg.

Wilkes scores 75.7 ppg while allowing 69.3 ppg.

FDU-Florham is 1-18 overall and 1-7 in the conference. After picking up its first win of the season last Wednesday at Manhattanville, the Devils lost 66-62 at home to Misericordia Saturday.

Darren Davy is the third leading scorer in the MAC Freedom and leads the way for the Devils with 15.3 ppg and he leads FDU-Florham with 6.8 rpg. At 122-of-211 he shoots 57.8 percent from the floor which ranks second in the conference. Anthony Mitchell also averages in double figures with 10.1 ppg.

The Devils average 66.2 ppg and give up 80.6 this season. Wilkes went to Madison, N.J. on January 3rd and defeated FDU-Florham 75-52.
