Team Records Fall as Wilkes Women's Swimming Completes Diamond City Invitational Day 1
WILKES-BARRE, PA – Three team records were recorded for the Wilkes University women's swimming team as the Colonels stand fourth of 11 teams after day one of the 2019 Diamond City Invitational hosted by King's College at the Wyoming Valley CYC. The Colonels scored 465 team points through 12 of 18 events over the two day invitational.

Saturday's first session consisted of the 200 Freestyle Relay, 500 Freestyle, 200 IM, 50 Freestyle, and the 400 Medley Relay.
Right out of the gate the Colonels broke two school records. The team of
Alexa Crossgrove (Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area),
Tricia Bartosh (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall),
Maddy Kinard (Dover, PA/Dover Area), and
Abby Keating (Spring Grove, PA/Spring Grove Area) set a new record with a time of 1:43.12 in the 200 Freestyle Relay. The foursome took the silver with a second place finish out of 21 teams to score 56 points. Crossgrove also set the school record for the 50 Freestyle leading off the race with a 25:22.
Crossgrove then broke her own 500 Freestyle record that she had set last week. The sophomore bested the time by over 12 seconds finishing in 5:19.74 for the gold medal out of 43 swimmers. She earned the Colonels 32 points with the individual victory.
Keating earned Wilkes 25 points with a fifth place finish out of 40 swimmers in the 200 IM with a time of 2:21.56.

Emilie Detweiler (Muncy, PA/Hughesville),
Deanna Wadzin (Sugar Notch, PA/Hanover Area), and Crossgrove placed eighth of 19 teams to earn 44 points in the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 4:25.95.
Session two in the evening consisted of 200 Medley Relay, 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Freestyle, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, and 800 Freestyle.
The 200 Medley Relay team of Kinard, Detweiler, Keating, and
Jessica Turnitza (Cumbola, PA/Pottsville Area) placed eighth of 21 teams with a time of 1:59.85 to earn 44 points.
Keating grabbed silver in the 400 IM. The junior placed second of 20 swimmers with a 4:55.07 to nab 28 points.
Crossgrove earned bronze in the 200 Freestyle. She placed third of 45 with a 1:59.70 to take 27 points and set a new program record in the process.
To close the night the team of Turnitza, Wadzin, Keating and Crossgrove placed third to earn bronze in the 800 Freestyle out of 11 teams. The foursome finished in 8:40.22 to add 54 points to the team score.
The Colonels will close out the 2019 Diamond Invitational tomorrow with the final six events starting at 10:00 a.m.
