First Period Goals Lift Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey to Conference Road Victory

ASTON, PA. – The Wilkes University Colonels traveled to face Neumann in a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) battle Saturday evening, seeking to keep their undefeated UCHC record intact.

The Colonels (9-2, 7-0) put home a pair of first period goals and shut the Knights (3-7, 3-5) down until the last minutes of the contest to take home a 2-1 victory and to stay undefeated in conference play.

Sophomore Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ) put home the first goal on the evening for the Colonels 5:08 into the game with assists from sophomore forward Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/) and junior defender Charlie Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ).  Fea would put home the eventual game-winner a short 2:12 later into the period with assists from junior forward Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/) and sophomore forward Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/).

The goal horn would turn silent until 14:45 into the third period when the host Knights made it onto the scoreboard.  Sophomore goalkeeper Brandon Gordon (Sault Ste. Marie, MI/) would shut them out of the net for the remaining minutes to earn his second victory of the season and to keep the Colonels undefeated in conference.

Gordon recorded 29 saves on the evening.  The Colonels put 28 shots-on-goal while winning the faceoff battle 33-23.

The Colonels return home Tuesday, December 17 to host Bryn Athyn at the Toyota SportsPlex.  The puck will drop on the Colonels final pre-Christmas battle at 7:00 p.m.
