Wilkes Men's Tennis Drops Match to Warner University
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Wilkes University men's team played under the lights on Monday evening and competed valiantly before ultimately falling 8-0 to Warner University (FL).
The loss drops the men's team to 1-1 this spring.
After the doubles portion of play was suspended due to rain on Sunday evening with Warner winning both the doubles points over #1 Courtney Murphy (Bronx, NY/Christopher Columbus) and Andrew MacDonald (Bridgeton, NJ/Cumberland Regional) and #2 Braddock Chow (Glen Cove, NY/Glen Cove) and Mike Ellis (Phoenixville, PA/Phoenixville), the Royals headed into Monday's singles up 2-0.
Playing in the #2 singles spot was Jonathan White (Saylorsburg, PA/Pleasant Valley) who dropped a 1-6, 0-6 decision to begin singles action. Larry Scartz (Woodbridge, VA/Home School) had a tough time as well in the #4 spot, falling 0-6, 0-6 to put the Colonels behind 4-0.
Warner would continue their fast start with a win over #3 Chris Maderitz (York, PA/Central York) (1-6, 3-6) to secure the match victory before beating #1 Murphy in a tough three-set match (3-6, 6-4, 0-1 (4-10).
The match closed with #5 Colin Greenman (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees) losing 0-6, 1-6 before #6 MacDonald ended the match with a 2-8 defeat.
The Colonels will look to get back on track tomorrow when they take on Ohio Northern University at 3:30 p.m.
