No. 4 Wilkes Men's Lacrosse Set to Face No. 1 Eastern in MAC Freedom Semifinal Wednesday
WILKES-BARRE – The No. 4 seeded Wilkes University men's lacrosse team will play in its first conference postseason game since the program rebirth when the Colonels travel to No. 1 seeded Eastern University to take on the Eagles in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Semifinal Round matchup at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday in St. David's, Pa.
Ticket prices set by the MAC office are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for students (with ID). Children under six-years-old are free.

The Colonels, under the direction of head coach
Curtis Jaques, clinched the No. 4 seed in the MAC Freedom Championship with a must-win game this past Saturday at Schmidt Stadium on Senior Day against FDU-Florham. Wilkes was able to defeat the Devils 13-5 to leap them in the standings and earn its first MAC Freedom postseason appearance. The Colonels finished the regular season at 3-4 in the conference and 9-7 overall to record the most wins during a single season since the program rebirth before the start of the 2016 season.
Eastern defeated Wilkes in a tightly contested overtime battle by a 10-9 score at Schmidt Stadium in the regular season meeting on April 10th. The Colonels opened the game with a 6-0 lead before the Eagles scored nine of the next 11 goals to take a 9-8 lead in the third quarter. Wilkes would tie the game before the end of the third and the game went scoreless through the entire fourth quarter. Mark Buannic scored the game-winning goal for Eastern 1:21 into the first overtime period.
Wilkes enters the game third in conference scoring at 12.63 goals-per-game and second allowing 9.25 goals-per-game. The Colonels are first with a .375 man-up scoring percentage, first with 39.13 ground balls-per-game and first with a .676 faceoff percentage.
The Colonels six all-conference selections this season were the most for the program since the rebirth.
Andrew Moynihan (Easton, MA/Lawrence Academy) was selected to the All-MAC Freedom First Team and was named the conference Specialist of the Year on Tuesday.
JT Weitzel (Hampstead, MD/North Carroll) joined Moynihan on the First Team.
John Wink (Glenside, PA/Abington) and
Alex Myers (Cortland, NY/Cortland) were selected to the Second Team while
Jack O'Connell (Linwood, NJ/St. Augustine Prep.) and
Carter Whittemore (Rochester, NY/West Irondequoit) garnered Honorable Mention accolades.
Wink earned the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week award for the fourth time this season on Monday as he helped the Colonels clinch their postseason berth with six goals against FDU-Florham. Wink leads the conference with 83 points and 56 goals and is second with 27 assists this season.
Ethan Weaver (Olney, MD/James Hubert Blake) is second on the team and 14th in the conference with 40 points. His 24 assists rank in a tie for fifth in the MAC Freedom.
Connor Daly (Oakhurst, NJ/Ocean Twp.) and Myers are second on the team and tied for 13th in the conference with 25 goals.
Moynihan leads the conference with 226 faceoff wins and a .665 faceoff percentage. He also ranks third with 92 ground balls. Weitzel is eighth among MAC Freedom players with 72 ground balls and fourth with 5.54 per-game. Whittemore ranks second in the conference among goalkeepers with 14.15 saves-per-game and is fourth with 184 total saves, a .603 save percentage and a 9.89 goals-against-average.
Eastern has won six of the past seven conference championships, including last season, and earned the No. 1 seed by defeating DeSales in a matchup of unbeaten teams, 10-7 on Saturday. The Eagles finished the regular season with a 7-0 mark in the MAC Freedom and at 11-6 overall.
The Eagles enter the semifinal fifth in the conference scoring 9.59 goals-per-game and fifth allowing 10.43 goals-per-game. Eastern is ranked second behind just Wilkes with a .601 faceoff percentage.
Eastern also had six players named to the All-MAC Freedom team. Trent Ashton, Antonio Yeoman and Chris Durning were named to the First Team while Buannic, Ethan Joseph and Zach Bauer were selected to the Second Team.
Colin Piper leads Eastern and ranks seventh in the conference with 47 points. His 22 assists also rank seventh. Piper was the MAC Freedom Offensive Player of the Week on March 25th. Ashton is seventh with 31 goals while Buannic ranks 10th with 27.
Bauer ranks third among conference players with a .606 faceoff percentage and is fifth with 143 total faceoff wins and seventh with 73 ground balls. Durning leads the MAC Freedom with 116 ground balls and is fourth with 35 caused turnovers. He was selected the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week the past two weeks. Goalkeeper Brett McDonald ranks third with 190 saves, sixth with a 10.49 goals-against-average, seventh averaging 11.18 saves-per-game and eighth with a .529 save percentage.
The winner of this semifinal game will advance to the MAC Freedom Final on Saturday to face the winner of the other semifinal between No. 2 seed DeSales and No. 3 seed Misericordia.
