CORTLAND, NY – The No. 12 Wilkes University men's ice hockey team built a 4-1 lead in the third period before a frantic finish led to a 6-5 overtime victory for host SUNY Cortland Tuesday evening at Alumni Arena in the Colonels final non-conference game of the season. Eleven different players scored in the contest.

The nationally-ranked Colonels dropped to 11-3-0 and saw a four-game winning streak end while the Red Dragons improved to 6-7-1 and ran their unbeaten streak to four games.

Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ) started the scoring at the 12:40 mark of the first period with his seventh goal of the season off assists from Ryan Galvin (Atlanta, GA/) and Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/).

The Red Dragons evened the game six minutes into the second period at 1-1 on a Tommy Ritchie goal. Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/) tallied his ninth goal of the season at the 12:58 mark of the second to give the Colonels the lead back. Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/) and Flynn assisted on the play. Flynn then scored to push the Wilkes lead to 3-1 with 35 seconds remaining in the period. The goal came off an assist from Fea and was the 16th of the year for Flynn.

Devon Schell (Scarsdale, NY/) extended the lead to 4-1 just 28 seconds into the third frame with his second of the season as Phil Erickson (Eau Claire, WI/) provided the helper.

Cortland began its climb back with a power play goal off the stick of Louis DiMatteo at the 7:42 mark of the third. The Red Dragons then scored on a 5-on-3 power play as Ethan Homitz found the net 10:29 into the period to make the score 4-3. Just over two minutes later Luca Esposito tied the game for the home team.

Erickson gave the Colonels the lead back at 5-4 with 4:05 left in the third with his eighth goal of the year off an assist from Schell. Cortland would not go away as the goaltender was pulled with 1:45 to go and the Red Dragons found the goal they needed off the stick of Sean Perichak with 40 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Alex Storjohann provided the clincher 2:13 into the overtime period to hand Wilkes its third loss of the season.

Flynn tallied his third-straight game and seventh overall of the season with at least three points with a goal and two assists. Schell, Erickson, and Fea each recorded two points for the Colonels. Toon De Schepper (Nieuwenrode, Belgium), in his collegiate debut, and Schell led Wilkes with a +2 rating.
