No. 12 Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Suffers First Conference Defeat to No. 6 Utica
WILKES-BARRE – A five-goal first period proved too much to overcome on Friday evening from the Toyota SportsPlex as the No. 12 Wilkes University men's ice hockey team suffered its first loss in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action with an 8-3 loss to No. 6 Utica College.
The Colonels fell to 7-1-0 in league play and 11-4-0 overall.
Utica jumped out of the gate with five scores in the first 20 minutes and added a sixth goal less than 90 seconds into the second period.
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/) got Wilkes on the board at 5:42 of the second with an unassisted score.
The Pioneers followed with a seventh goal on the power-play before Danny Reidel (Wayne, NJ) found the back of the net with an assist from Charlie Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ) at 18:18 of the second period.
Utica added an eighth goal with nine seconds left in the second period, with Devon Schell (Scarsdale, NY/) finishing the scoring with the lone goal of the third at 15:04 assisted by Nick Godfrey (Cedar Run, NJ).
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY) made 23 saves for the Colonels while Gianluca Baggetta stopped 20 Wilkes shots.
The Colonels return to the ice on Saturday at 5:05 p.m. when they host Nazareth College in UCHC action.
