Five Goal Head Start Helps Wilkes Men's Hockey Cruise to Victory
HERSHEY, Pa. – Five consecutive goals to start the game allowed the Wilkes University men's ice hockey team to cruise to a 5-1 victory over Lebanon Valley College in both United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCUC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) action on Friday evening.
The Colonels improved to 4-0 in MAC play, 9-1 in UCHC contests, and 13-4 overall with the win.
Dylan Kuipers (Andover, NJ/) started the scoring at 1:31 in the first period when he beat the Dutchmen's goaltender with an assist from Donald Flynn (Randolph, NJ/).
Tyler Barrow (Massapequa, NY/) doubled the lead at 9:00 in the first with an assist from Ryan Galvin (Atlanta, GA/) and Devon Schell (Scarsdale, NY/) finished the first period scoring at 11:47 with helpers from Charlie Spetz (Oak Ridge, NJ) and Barrow.
Flynn increased the lead to 4-0 at 13:24 of the second period with assists from Tyson Araujo (Oak Bluffs, MA/) and Nick Fea (Oak Ridge, NJ/).
Joey Pasquini (Schenectady, NY/) notched an unassisted tally at 17:35 of the second to finish the scoring for Wilkes.
Lebanon Valley broke up the shutout at 19:16 of the second to finish the scoring.
Michael Paterson-Jones (Baldwinsville, NY) stopped 13 shots to improve to 10-1-0 with the win. Henry Burns stopped 29 shots for the Dutchmen.
Eight Colonels finished with a plus-two rating. Schell finished 7-for-9 on face-offs to lead the team.
Wilkes returns to the ice on Saturday when it travels to Elmira College for a 7:00 p.m. UCHC game.
