Box Score Wilkes Softball Earns Walk-Off Extra Inning Victory against Otterbein
N. MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – The Colonels softball squad finished their first day of the Snowbird Classic with two victories after a come-from-behind walk-off victory versus Otterbein Monday afternoon.
The Colonels (2-2) fell behind after a two-run sixth by the Cardinals (3-1), but a lone Colonel run in the seventh forced an extra inning, where they found another run for the walk-off victory.
The bats of both squads remained quiet until the fourth inning, where senior
Celine Podlesney (Hazle Twp., PA/Hazleton) singled in a run. After Otterbein hit the board in the top of the fifth, Wilkes replied with an RBI from junior
Britny Jumalon (Torrance, CA/Torrance) to take a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals took a 3-2 lead after a two-run sixth, but the Colonels forced extras with an RBI triple from junior
Jordyn Kondras (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg).
Senior
Rachel Pritchard (Wilmington, DE/Concord) shut down the Cardinals in the top of the eighth, before sophomore
Rhia Aurand's (Avondale, PA/Avon Grove) double in the bottom of the frame gave the Colonels a 4-3 victory on the afternoon.
Aurand batted 3-of-4 on the afternoon, while junior
Haley Boyd (Escalon, CA/Escalon) made it to the bases in all three of her at-bats, going 2-for-2 and getting a walk. Pritchard earned her first victory in the Navy and Gold, while Podlesney pitched six innings in the start.
