Rolak Wins 141-Pound Title; Wilkes Wrestling Finishes Tenth at Racich Rumble

COLLEGEVILLE, PA – First year Collin Rolak (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) made his Wilkes University wrestling debut by winning the 141-pound title at the Racich Rumble Tournament hosted by Ursinus College Saturday. Wilkes placed tenth of 14 teams overall.

Senior Austin Cominsky (Cape May Courthouse, NJ/Middle Township) also placed for the Colonels, coming in sixth at 197-pounds.

Wilkes earned 77.5 points to finish tenth as a team on the day. New York University took first place overall with 177 points. York (Pa.) placed third overall and boasted four of the 10 champions.

Rolak started his tournament with a Round of 32 victory over Bryce Vollman of Delaware Valley by fall at 1:13. He then won by fall in 2:04 over Trevor McGowan of Messiah in the Round of 16. In the Quarterfinals Rolak's impressive run continued as he took his third straight fall this time over No. 1 seed Blake Shalbert of York at 2:18. He then beat No. 4 seed Quinn Tobin of Alvernia in the Semifinals with a low-scoring 3-2 decision. In the Finals Rolak won a high-scoring 14-12 decision over Tyson McDuffy of York to finish as the 141-pound champion and 5-0 to start his career.

Cominsky began with a fall at 45 seconds of his Round of 32 bout against Gardner Kern of Ursinus then dropped his Round of 16 bout to the No. 3 seed. Cominsky then defeated teammate Kevin Croley (Orwigsburg, PA/Blue Mountain) by fall in 1:18 in the consolation round of 16 #2. He followed that with a 14-10 decision over Kyle Davis of Penn State Mont Alto in the consolation round of 8 #1. Cominsky beat his second teammate of the day in the consolation round of 8 #2 when he knocked off Hunter Lowe (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) by fall at 2:18. The senior then beat fourth seeded Mike Massa of Johns Hopkins in the consolation round of 4 with a 6-2 decision. From there he took two no contests in the consolation semifinals and the Fifth-Place Bout as he finished the day 5-1 in matches wrestled and in sixth place at 197.

The rest of the Colonels grapplers produced 26 victories combined in the tournament.

Nicholas Bauer (Coplay, PA/Wyoming Seminary), seeded sixth at 125, went 3-1 on the day as he won his Round of 32 match and then his first two in the consolation bracket before ending his day with a medical forfeit.

Rene Trevino (Rio Grande City, TX/Rio Grande City) went 3-2 at 133-pounds as he won his first two bouts of the day to reach the Quarterfinals. His two losses came to the No. 3 and No. 5 seeds in the weight class.

At 141 Max Shaffer (Doylestown, PA/Archbishop Wood) was seeded third and received a bye into the Round of 16 where he started the day with a loss. He then proceeded to wrestle back with three consecutive wins including a 5-4 decision over Shalbert, the No. 1 seed, in the consolation round of 8 #2. He then had his day close with an 8-6 decision in favor of Nick Kruczynski of NYU in the consolation round of 4 as he finished 3-2. Josef Lundin (Edmonton, AB/Vimy Ridge Academy) went 0-2 in the 141-pound bracket.

At 149-pounds Allen Kokilananda (Springfield, VA/Annandale) finished with a 3-1 record with his only loss to the No. 1 seed. He ended up ending his wrestle backs with a medical forfeit in the consolation round of 8 #2. Benjamin Griffith (Fogelsville, PA/Northwestern Lehigh) went 1-2 on the day.

Cody Dix (Egg Harbor, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) reached the Quarterfinals at 157 as the No. 5 seed with victories in the Round of 32 and Round of 16 before losing to the fourth seed and in his consolation round of 8 #2 bout to finish the day 2-2. Carson Wells (Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock Township) also finished 2-2 on the day as James Shaw (Campbell Hall, NY/Burke Catholic) went 1-2 and Christopher Mann (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) 0-2 in the weight class.

Devin Doty (Port Jervis, NY/Minisink Valley) and Trevor DuBoff (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) each were 0-2 for the Colonels at 165.

Christopher Nuss (Gore, VA/James Wood) had a 4-2 showing at 174 as he was a winner in the Round of 32 before suffering a loss to the third seed in the Round of 16. He then won three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket including a fall at 3:55 over fifth seeded Jason Zollers of Ursinus.

Brady Mitchell (Brunswick, ME/Mount Ararat) and Alexis Perez (Mahanoy City, PA/Mahanoy Area) went 1-2 at 184-pounds with Perez's victory coming over teammate Dawson Tallant (Cape May, NJ/Middle Township) who finished 0-2 on the day.

Lowe won his Round of 16 bout before dropping bouts to the No. 1 seed and Cominsky to finish 1-2 at 197. Croley and Kevin Falcon (Whitehall, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) were each 0-2 on the day.

Brian McKinnon (Highland Lakes, NJ/Ridgewood) went 1-2 at 285 and Jacob Leiva (Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) was 0-2 after facing the first and second seeds to open his collegiate career.

The Colonels return to the mat on Wednesday for a home dual match against Elizabethtown College inside the Marts Center at 7:00 p.m. before participating in their next tournament on Saturday, November 20 at Penn College.
