Wilkes Women's Soccer Set for MAC Freedom Play-In Game at FDU-Florham Tonight

WILKES-BARRE – The fifth-seeded Wilkes University women's soccer team is set to face fourth-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson University-Florham Campus in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Play-In Game Tuesday night in Madison, N.J. at 7:00 p.m. This season marks the sixth consecutive trip for the Colonels to the conference postseason.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $2 for students (with ID) and children, and free for children under six with an adult. Full information on the 2021 MAC Freedom Men's Soccer Championship can be found at the championship central page including merchandise information.

Wilkes enters the MAC Freedom Women's Soccer Championship following a regular season that saw them finish tied for fourth in the conference standings with a 3-3-2 record and earning the No. 5 seed following tiebreak rules. Wilkes went 7-8-2 overall during the regular season.

FDU-Florham also finished 3-3-2 in the conference and were slotted as the No. 4 seed. The Devils were 12-6-2 overall. The Colonels and Devils played to a 2-2 draw through two overtimes at Bruggeworth Field back on October 2nd to open MAC Freedom play. In that game the Colonels outshot the Devils 25-17 while both teams put nine of those shots on goal. Wilkes held a slight 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Emily Bidelspach (Myerstown, PA/ELCO) scored both the goals for the Colonels.

The Colonels are led on offense by Bidelspach who ranks tied for fifth in the conference with 12 goals and is tied for sixth with 29 points. Her five assists are tied for the team lead and tenth in the MAC Freedom along with Erica Feese (State College, PA/State College Area). Bidelspach is tied for second three game-winning goals. Sarah Eliff (Owings, MD/Northern) is second on the team and tied for 14th in the league with five goals. Wilkes received goals from 14 different players on the year. The Wilkes offense ranks fourth in the MAC Freedom with 17.0 shots-per-game and fifth with 1.94 goals-per-game.

Hannah Landis (Red Hill, PA/Upper Perkiomen) has started 14 of the 17 games this season for the Colonels and ranks third in the conference with 76 total saves. She has recorded two shutouts with a 1.74 goals-against-average and a .752 save percentage. Landis has won the MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week award three times this season. The Wilkes defense as a whole unit ranks sixth in the conference with 1.71 goals against-per-game.

FDU-Florham is led on offense by Amanda Croce with eight goals as she ranks tied for ninth in the conference. She is tenth in the league with 20 points. Ashley Dietrich is tied for 11th in the MAC Freedom with six goals. Tatiana Nieto is one of the best playmakers in the league as she is tied for the lead with 10 assists and ranks 11th with 18 points. The Devils are sixth in the conference with 15.25 shots-per-game and are sixth with 1.60 goals-per-game.

Erica Blackburn is second in the MAC Freedom with an .852 save percentage and third with a 0.96 goals-against-average. Her 69 total saves rank fifth and she has earned two shutouts as she has played in 16 of the Devils 20 games. The FDU-Florham defense is third in the conference with 1.00 goals against-per-game.

The winner of the MAC Freedom Play-In Game will move onto face No. 1 seed Misericordia (16-1-0, 8-0-0) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in a semifinal. No. 3 seed Stevens Institute of Technology (8-5-4, 5-1-2) will play at No. 2 seed DeSales (13-4-0, 6-2-0) in the other semifinal at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two semifinal winners will meet with the MAC Freedom NCAA Division III Tournament automatic qualifier spot on the line on Saturday, November 6 in the Final.
