Wilkes Basketball Looks To Rebound in MAC Freedom With Home Contests Against FDU-Florham

WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University men's and women's basketball teams return home as they look to rebound in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play when they host FDU-Florham on Saturday, December 10 inside the Marts Center. The women's game opens the afternoon contests at 1:00 p.m. with the men following at 3:00 p.m.

Women's Preview:
Wilkes looks to get momentum in MAC Freedom competition as they are 2-6 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC Freedom. Wilkes has a 1-5 record inside the Marts Center. The Colonels dropped their road contest to No.16 DeSales University 56-37 on Wednesday.
 
Yamirelis Matos (Springfield, MA/Chicopee) leads the Colonels in scoring with 12.5 ppg which is ninth in the MAC Freedom. Brianna Horton (Verona, NJ/Verona) is second on the team and 25th in the league with 7.5 ppg. Erin Shober (Reading, PA/Wilson) with 6.1 ppg and Julia Marino (Washington Township, NJ/Washington Township) with 5.9 are third and fourth in scoring for Wilkes.
 
Matos leads Wilkes in rebounding with 5.5 rpg which is 18th in the conference. Horton follows with 5.3 rpg and Shober is third on the team 4.0. Marino leads the team in assists with 2.9 apg which is third in the league with Matos following behind with 2.5, tied for 11th in the conference.
 
Matos leads the team with a .389 field goal percentage while Horton is second in the MAC Freedom with a .441 three-point percentage as she is 15-for-34 from behind the arc. Her 1.9 threes-per-game are tied for fifth in the league. Shober is tied for sixth in the conference in blocks with 1.1 bpg and Marino and Matos are tied for ninth in steals with 2.3 spg each. Marino is fifth in the league with a .800 free-throw percentage as she is 12-for-15 from the line while Brenna Babcock (Sweet Valley, PA/Northwest Area) is 15-20 from the line, placing her 10th in the MAC Freedom.
 
Wilkes is seventh the MAC Freedom in scoring offense at 54.0 ppg and scoring defense at 62.4 ppg.
 
FDU-Florham enters the game looking to get their first win of the season as they hold a 0-5 record and are 0-3 in the conference. They are 0-2 when going on the road this season. In the Devils last game, they lost to No. 25 nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology 88-35 at home on Wednesday.
 
Abigail Rodriguez leads FDU-Florham in scoring with 12.6 ppg which is eighth in the conference. Isabella Torrado follows with 10.0 ppg, ranking her 15th in the MAC Freedom.
 
Whitney Shyposh is the team leader in rebounding with 6.2 rpg, placing her at 15th in the league. Nour Elsayyid follows with 5.4 rpg. Rodriguez is tied for first in the MAC Freedom with 3.4 apg.
 
Rodriguez is 15th in the MAC Freedom with a .258 field goal percentage while Torrado is tenth with a .213 three-point percentage. Torrado and Shyposh are both tied for a team leading 0.1 bpg while Torrado is tied for 12th in the conference with 2.0 spg.

FDU-Florham is ninth in the MAC Freedom in scoring offense with 36.0 ppg and scoring defense at 85.6 ppg.
 
FDU-Florham leads the series with a 17-6 lead dating back to the 2010-11 season with Wilkes winning the last three matchups, which include both games last season.
 
 
Men's Preview:
Wilkes comes into the contest with a 5-4 overall record and 1-1 in MAC Freedom play. Wilkes also enters the game going 3-1 at home this season. The Colonels lost a close matchup at DeSales 71-67 on Wednesday.
 
Drake Marshall (Gainesville, VA/Patriot) leads the Colonels in scoring to start the year with 14.3 points-per-game (ppg) which is good for eighth in the MAC Freedom. Trent Fisher (Sellersville, PA/Pennridge) is averaging 11.2 ppg as he is currently 20th in the conference. Cayden Merrifield (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) with 8.8 ppg and Jack Argento (Hershey, PA/Hershey) with 7.2 ppg are third and fourth on the team in scoring.
 
Fisher is tied for ninth in the conference with 6.6 rebounds-per-game (rpg) as he leads the Colonels in rebounds. Marshall follows with 5.9 rpg which is 13th in the league. Joey Zvorsky (New Cumberland, PA/Cedar Cliff) is averaging 4.9 rpg. Merrifield leads the team while placing eighth in the MAC Freedom with 3.2 assists-per-game (apg).
 
Fisher is currently fourth in the conference with a .611 field goal percentage and tenth with 1.1 bpg. Merrifield leads Wilkes with 14 steals, placing him seventh in the conference with 1.6 steals-per-game (spg), with Zvorsky following behind averaging 1.4 spg as he has recorded 13 steals on the season. Matthew Davidheiser (Reading, PA/Exeter Township) leads Wilkes with a .519 three-point shooting percentage as he is 14-27 on the season, tying for third in the conference.

Matthew Johnson leads the Devils with 15.9 ppg which puts him fourth in the MAC Freedom. Michael Dabas follows behind with 10.6 ppg while Jamal Santana and Carson Woods are third and fourth on the team with 10.3 and 7.4 ppg respectively.
 
Johnson is 15th in the conference with 5.3 rebounds per game while Brian Nichols and Woods are 16th and tied for 17th in the MAC Freedom as they average 5.0 and 4.9 rpg each. Barnes leads the Devils with 2.7 apg.
 
Dabas ranks ninth in the conference with a .449 field goal percentage and leads the team with a .296 three-point shooting percentage as he is 8-for-27 on the year. Johnson and Nichols are tied for 12th in the MAC Freedom with 0.8 bpg while Woods is sixth in the division as he averages 1.7 spg.
 
FDU-Florham is ninth in the MAC Freedom scoring 54.1 ppg and the Devils rank fourth in scoring defense with 63.8 ppg.
 
Wilkes leads the series 14-8 dating back to the 2010-11 season, which includes both games the Colonels won over the Devils last season.
