• Wilkes wrestling will travel to Louisville, Kentucky as they compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals on Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7. The start time will be 10:00 a.m. for the Colonels. The event will host 24 teams from across the nation. The Colonels will begin the duals against No. 14 University of Wisconsin-Platteville. If the Colonels win the first matchup, they would face No. 7 Wabash at 12:00 p.m. If they lose, Wilkes would either face No. 17 Castleton or Olivet at 2:00 p.m.
• The Colonels hosted the 89th Wilkes Open on December 22, having two wrestlers finish in the top-6.
Hunter Lowe (Westminster, MD/Winters Mill) took second place in the 197 division while
Austin Fashouer (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) placed third in the 125 weight class.
• Wilkes competed on December 9th in a dual matchup where they fell to Delaware Valley University 23-15 to drop to 2-4 in duals on the season.
Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central),
Kyle Tino (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg), and
Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) all got three points with their decision victories at their respective weight classes while
Charles Everdale (Freeland, PA/Hazleton Area) scored a fall in 32 seconds to briefly give Wilkes the lead following the 165-pound bout in their matchup with the Aggies.
• Wilkes also competed in three tournaments this season: Ned McGinley Invitational, Racich Rumble, and Blue Jay Classic. The Colonels had nine grapplers finish in the top-6 at the Ned McGinley while having two wrestlers in the top six at the Racich Rumble. Wilkes saw 11 members place top six at the Blue Jay Classic.
• Four grapplers have won titles in tournaments this season. Fashouer (125) and Butka (197) got first place at the Blue Jay Classic while Bauer (141) and
James Geiger (Dallas, PA/Dallas) (174) took titles at the Ned McGinley Invitational.
• Wilkes competed in the Dr. Sam Case Duals on November 20 where they had three dual matches. They beat John Hopkins 24-23 and Pittsburgh-Bradford 35-13 before falling in their last meet to host McDaniel 23-22.
• The Colonels fell to Elizabethtown 24-22 in their road dual match on Friday, November 18.
• Four grapplers were ranked in the NWCA Individual Regional Southeast Rankings, which were released on January 3rd. Butka was ranked third in the 197 pound division while Geiger was placed fourth in the 174 weight class. Fashouer and Bauer rounded out the rankings as they were placed sixth at the 125 and 141 divisions respectively.
• In the d3wrestle.com individual rankings that came out December 26th, Fashouer, Geiger, and Butka were all Honorable-Mentions in their respective weight classes.
• The Colonels 2022-2023 roster goes 32 deep with a class breakdown of: 5 seniors; 7 juniors; 9 sophomores; and 11 first-years.
• The roster features athletes from six states: Pennsylvania – 17; New Jersey – 9; New York – 2; Virginia – 2; Maryland – 1; Louisiana - 1.
