Wilkes Wrestling Takes Third Place at Doug Parker Invitational; Four Top-Six Finishers
 
SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Wilkes University wrestling team finished in third place out of 18 teams at the Doug Parker Invitational Saturday afternoon hosted by Springfield College. Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) was one of four top-six finishers for Wilkes, earning the Colonels lone title at 197-pounds.
 
Wilkes finished with 109 team points for third place. Coast Guard took home champion honors with 162.5 points while host Springfield finished second with 117.5 team points.

Butka was the lone champion for Wilkes cruising to the title bout at 197-pounds. He opened with a bye before a technical fall win (18-2) over Williams' David Laprade. After a fall in 4:39 in his next bout, Butka made it three straight extra-point wins with a 17-5 major decision over Coast Guard's Gabe Monroe. He then won the title in impressive fashion with his four extra-point win taking down Centenary's Keevon Berry by major decision 19-7 in the finals.
 
Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) finished in second place at 141-pounds. Bauer began the day with a technical fall (16-0) and fall (1:16) to reach the quarterfinals. After a medical forfeit advanced Bauer to the semifinals, he landed a tough 4-1 win over Trinity's Adam Schaeublin to reach the finals. Bauer settled for second place after falling 11-1 to champion Xavier Pena of Centenary.
 
Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) was the third top-six finisher for Wilkes taking home third place at 157-pounds. Hartranft used a pair of falls to advance to the quarterfinals, one in :41 and the other 2:24. He moved on with a 10-3 decision before falling in the semifinals to Coast Guard's Noah Caskey 15-8. Hartranft then won the third place bout with a 13-5 decision over Delaware Valley's Nicholas Delorenzo.
 
Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) was the final top-six finisher for Wilkes taking home fifth place at 285-pounds. After a fall in the second round, Burkhart dropped a 9-8 back-and-forth battle with Coast Guard's Kevin Pandorf to move to the consolations. There he used two more falls to and a medical forfeit to earn fifth place at the event.
 
Wilkes is back on the mat next following the Thanksgiving Holiday break when the Colonels compete in the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic on Saturday, December 2 starting at 9:00 a.m.
