WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Wilkes University wrestling team bounced back on day two of the 2024 Budd Whitehill Duals claiming a pair of wins to secure 13^th place in the event. The Colonels recorded a 40-7 win over Oswego State before besting York College (Pa.) 27-14 to conclude the day of wrestling.
 
Wilkes improved to 3-5 in dual matches on the season after finishing 2-3 at the event this weekend.
 
Wilkes won eight of ten bouts to cruise to the victory over Oswego State in the semifinals of the 13^th-16^th place bracket. Connor Kerwin (Totowa, NJ/Passaic Valley) opened the scoring with a fall in 4:07 at 125-pounds. Jack Bauer (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) added to the lead with a 10-6 decision at 141-pounds before back-to-back extra-point wins as Jaryn Hartranft (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) (157) won by technical fall 17-1 and Trevor DuBoff (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) (165) earned a fall in :38 to push the Wilkes lead to double-digits through six bouts. After an injury win at 174-pounds, Christopher Nuss (Gore, VA/James Wood) posted a 7-0 decision at 184 and Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (197) and Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) (285) finished off the extra-point scoring with a 19-3 technical fall and fall in 2:27 respectively to conclude the 33-point victory.
 
In its second match of the day, Wilkes trailed 6-0 after two bouts but three straight wins put the Colonels ahead 13-6. Bauer earned an 11-2 major decision at 141-pounds before Colton Thorpe (Southington, CT/Southington) posted a fall in 2:14 at 149-pounds. Hartranft then won by decision 4-1 at 157-pounds. Nuss, Butka and Burkhart then finished off the win for the Colonels with two major decisions and a fall to seal the win and 13^th place in the tournament.
 
Wilkes returns home on Friday hosting Elizabethtown College at 7:00 p.m. at the Marts Center.
