WILKES-BARRE – Visiting Delaware Valley University made a big lead hold as the Aggies posted a 29-18 victory over the No. 19 Wilkes University men's wrestling team on Monday night at the Marts Center.
 
Wilkes falls to 4-2 overall in dual match competition following the home defeat. Delaware Valley improves to 3-3 overall in dual matches.
 
Delaware Valley raced out to a 25-0 lead after five bouts using extra-point victories in each. The Aggies started with a major decision at 125-pounds followed by a fall at 133-pounds. Another major decision at 141 followed by a technical fall and a second fall gave the visitors the big lead half way through the match.
 
Wilkes responded with four straight victories including back-to-back falls at 184 and 197 to cut into the Aggies advantage. Caleb Lawrence (Larksville, PA/Wyoming Seminary) started the rally with a late comeback after being down most of the match earning a 9-5 decision at 165-pounds. Luas Miller made it two decisions in a row for Wilkes again earning a come-from-behind victory 9-4 as DVU led 25-6 after seven bouts.
 
Christopher Nuss (Gore, VA/James Wood) (184) and Cameron Butka (Scranton, PA/West Scranton) (197) went back-to-back on falls at 4:59 and :27 respectively to continue the momentum for the Colonels trailing 25-18 with one bouts remaining. In a match that featured to ranked wrestlers, Logan Flynn of Delaware Valley held on to a 10-2 major decision over Caleb Burkhart (Hughesville, PA/Hughesville) to close out the match for the Aggies.
 
Wilkes remains idle through the Thanksgiving holiday before returning to the mat on Saturday, December 7 when the Colonels compete in the Blue Jay Invitational hosted by Elizabethtown College starting at 9:00 a.m.
