Wilkes Men's Tennis Competes on Day One of King's Invitational
EDWARDSVILLE, PA – The Wilkes University men's tennis team saw all seven singles players stay alive into semifinal play and three of four doubles teams move forward on day one of the 2024 King's Invitational hosted by King's College at the Kirby Park Courts on Saturday afternoon.
No.1 singles:
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) moved into the semifinals after a 6-2, 6-1 win over Misericordia
S Wyatt Fischer. Rathe will face Patrick Pech of King's in the semifinals on Sunday.
No. 2 singles:
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) captured a 6-3, 6-0 win over FDU-Florham's Ronald Duval to reach the semifinals. He will face Max Lauver of Elizabethtown tomorrow for a chance to reach the finals.
No. 3 singles:
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Lycoming's Logan Hammond in the quarterfinals. Riley will matchup with FDU-Florham's Kevin Liwag in the semifinals on Sunday.
No. 4 singles:
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) earned a 6-2, 7-6 win in his quarterfinal match earning a date with Christian Mazza of Misericordia in the semifinals tomorrow.
No. 5 singles:
Otarhe Okoh (Baltimore, MD/Shakopee) was a 6-0, 6-3 winner in his quarterfinal match and will face Misericordia' Derek Burcik in the semifinals.
No. 6 singles:
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) won 6-1, 6-1 over Hunter Knosky of Penn College in the quarterfinals. He will face Kyle Henne of Elizabethtown in the semifinals.
No.7 singles:
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in his quarterfinal match advancing to the semifinals tomorrow.
No. 1 doubles: The duo of Sylvester and Okoh won 8-4 in the quarterfinals over Elizabethtown then captured an 8-4 decision over King's to move into the finals. The pair will face FDU-Florham's Emery/Duval for the title tomorrow.
No. 2 doubles: Rathe/Riley moved into the semifinals with an 8-6 victory in the quarterfinals over FDU-Florham's Liwag/Weglinski.
No. 3 doubles: Nguyen and Frey teamed up to win in the quarterfinals 8-5 over Penn College before defaulting in the semifinals.
No. 4 doubles: Zong/Nicholas Cirelli will face Penn College duo in the semifinals after earning a bye.
Play resumes tomorrow (Sunday) at 9:00 a.m.
