Wilkes Men's Tennis Captures Three Singles Titles, One Doubles Crown on Day Two of King's Invitational

EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University men's tennis team concluded play at the King's Invitational on Sunday afternoon as the Colonels captured three singles titles and one doubles crown.
At No. 4 singles,
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) earned his way to the finals with a 6-2, 4-6, 10-2 win over Christian Mazza. Frey then won the title with a 2-6, 7-5 (8-6), 10-8 thriller in the finals over FDU-Florham's Nicholas Weglinski.
At No. 5 singles, rookie Otahre Okoh bested Derek Burcik in the semifinals 6-0, 6-0 before capturing the crown with a quick 6-1, 6-1 straight set win in the finals over Kayvan Shams of Lycoming.
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) was the final winner in singles play at No. 7 for Wilkes after taking a 6-1, 6-3 decision over Hunter Weselowski in the semifinals, then besting Isaac Reichenbach of Elizabethtown 6-1, 6-2 in the finals.
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) fell in the finals at No. 1 in a three-set match (6-4, 3-6, 10-8) to champion Stefanos Billis of Elizabethtown.
Sebastian Sylvester (Diego Martin, Trinidad and Tobago/The College of Lady Fatima) dropped a tough 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 match in the finals of No. 2 to Derwin Guzman.
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) and
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) both advanced to the semifinals at No. 4 and 6 respectively before falling.
Nguyen and Zong paired at No. 4 doubles to win the title thanks to an 8-4 victory over Eli Harding and Noah Ceklosky in the finals. Okoh and Sylvester fell in the finals of No. 1 to FDU-Florham's Matthew Emery and Ronald Duval 8-3.
Wilkes will be back in action Saturday and Sunday September 28-29 when they compete at the ITA Regionals.
