Wilkes Men's Tennis Concludes Play at Ranger Invitational Doubles Tournament
MADISON, NJ – The Wilkes University men's tennis team concluded play at the Ranger Invitational Doubles Tournament on Sunday afternoon hosted by Drew University at the Simon Forum.
After the duo of
Otarhe Okoh (Shakopee, MN/Shakopee) and
Cole Riley (Louisville, KY/Xavier) defeated Drew's Sergey Kravchenko and Shivi Perera by retirement in the round of 16, the pair fell 6-1 to Christian Berko and Grahith Movva of RIT in the quarterfinals.
Connor Frey (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and
Nathanial Rathe (Lincoln, NE/Lincoln Southeast) fell in the round of 16 to Max Chang and Joel Pho of RIT 6-1.
Donovan Zong (Bethlehem, PA/Salisbury Township) and
Jonah Nguyen (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro Area) also dropped a 6-1 decision in the round of 16
Wilkes saw all three doubles teams win in the consolation rounds. Nguyen/Zong won 6-0 over Drew's Kiran Bhattacharya and Devan Sutaria. The team then beat Drew's Owen Reynolds and Fu Tingzhou 7-6 (7-3) in a thrilling match.
Frey and Rathe won 6-2 over Drew's Cameron Longa and Pharell Longenbach before a 6-2 victory over Reynolds and Tingzhou of Drew.
Wilkes is back in action on its spring break trip when the Colonels face Johnson and Wales University on March 2 in Hilton Head Island, SC.
