Wilkes Men's Ice Hockey Selected Fourth in MAC Preseason Coaches Poll

NEWTOWN, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's ice hockey team was picked to finish fourth by the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) coaches in 2026-27, as announced by the conference Thursday.

The Colonels earned 41 points after winning at least 15 games for the third straight season in 2025-26. Wilkes enters its third season in the MAC, and the Colonels qualified for the conference tournament in each of its first two seasons as members of the conference under head coach Tyler Hynes, who enters his eighth season in Wilkes-Barre.

Defending champion Neumann was a unanimous first-place selection, receiving 64 points. Stevenson was picked second with 55 points, while Alvernia sits ahead of the Colonels in third with 50 points.

Arcadia is directly behind Wilkes in fifth with 33 points, and Lebanon Valley follows the Knights in sixth with 30 points. King's, Misericordia, and Albright round out the conference with 24, 18, and eight points respectively.

Wilkes finished 12-7-2 in MAC play a season ago, finishing tied for second with Stevenson and just a point behind Neumann. The Colonels reached the conference semifinals before falling at Stevenson 6–2.

The Colonels open up the 2026-27 season at Manhattanville on Friday, Oct. 30 at 6:30 p.m. Wilkes' home opener takes place on Halloween against SUNY Cortland, and begins MAC play at home against Alvernia on Friday, Nov. 6 at 3:00 p.m.
