Seven from Wilkes Men's and Women's Tennis Named ITA Division III Scholar-Athletes, Women Named All-Academic Team
WILKES-BARRE – Seven student-athletes from the Wilkes University men's and women's tennis teams have been named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar-Athletes, with the women's team being named an ITA All-Academic Team, as announced by the organization Wednesday.
Xavier Bleiler (Mountain Top, PA/MMI Prep) and
Luis Delgado (Wilkes Barre, PA/Wilkes Barre Area) represented the men's team, while
Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona),
Kensington Edmond (Mount Joy, PA/Donegal),
Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area),
Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School), and
Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) represented the women's team with the honor.
To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must earn a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year. 1,151 men and 1,309 women across Division III were named scholar-athletes this season.
Bleiler and Delgado each earned the award at the first time of asking, as the first-year duo earned a 3.97 and 3.4 GPA respectively in pursuit of mechanical engineering and business degrees.
On the women's side, Edmond and Schreffler earned their second academic awards of the offseason after being named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team in May. Edmond earned a 3.94 GPA while Schreffler earned a 3.55 GPA while both pursuing degrees in environmental engineering.

Ana Savkovic (Belgrade, Serbia/The Hoosac School) headlines the trio of first years named Scholar-Athletes, earning a 3.75 GPA pursuing a psychology degree. Bopp and Gula earned a 3.54 and 3.8 GPA respectively in their first year of college while earning degrees in psychology and criminology.
The women's team was also one of 177 named an ITA Division III All-Academic Team. To earn this distinction, the team must have a combined grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale). Wilkes earned a 3.32 team GPA to qualify.
