BETHLEHEM – The Wilkes University women's tennis team cruised past DeSales University, taking a 9-0 win, not losing more than three games in any singles match.
In doubles play,
Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) and
Alison McDonald (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) took an 8-5 win over Kate Steiner and Jess Smith at the No. 1 position, while
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and
Kristin Wilt (Milton, Pa./Milton), playing at the No. 2 spot, took down Maryate Boylan and Christine Petrilla, 8-0. At. No. 3 doubles,
Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, Pa./ELCO) defeated Drista Damirgian and Amelia Lloyd, 8-1.
In singles play, Bybel took a 6-3, 6-2 straight-set win over Steiner at the No. 1 position, while Zhang won her match, 6-2, 6-2 over Smith at the No. 2 spot. McDonald took down Boylan, 6-2, 6-2 as did Wilt over Petrilla, 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 4 position.
At the No. 5 spot, Knight beat Damirgian, 6-2, 6-0, while
Katie Buckley (Danville, Pa./Danville) defeated Amelia Lloyd 6-0, 6-1.
The Lady Colonels will enter the MAC Championships this weekend in Lancaster.
