Wilkes Women's Tennis Claims One Singles Title, Two Doubles Crowns at King's Tournament
 
EDWARDSVILLE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team claimed one singles championship and two doubles titles on the final day of the King's College Tournament held at Kirby Park and Ralston Athletic Complex courts.
 
Kayley Skibicki (Hanover, PA/South Western) won the title at No. 5 singles defeating an opponent from Muhlenberg in the finals.
 
In doubles action, Julia Spaeth (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg Area) and Ava Vacula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area Secondary Center) claimed the No. 1 doubles title. After a victory by injury default against Penn College in the semifinals, the pair posted a win over Rutgers-Camden in the finals.
 
Wanda Owens (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) and Rebecca Gula (Exeter, PA/Wyoming Area) finished off the champion duos for Wilkes winning the No. 4 title. The pair bested Marywood in the semifinals before taking the title with a win over Lycoming in the finals.
 
At No. 1 singles, Isabel Schreffler (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown West) took home runner-up after falling to Rutgers-Camden in the finals. Vacula fell in the finals at No. 3 singles losing to Rutgers-Camden in the final match. At No. 7 singles, Breanna Herdine (Haslet, TX/) fell in the finals to Muhlenberg after besting a player from Misericordia in the semifinals.
 
Other doubles action saw Isabella Bopp (Verona, NJ/Verona) and Schreffler fall in the finals at No. 2 to Muhlenberg after winning their semifinal match against Rutgers-Camden.
 
Wilkes is back on the court Saturday, September 19 with a road match at Marywood University starting at 1:00 p.m.
