WILKES-BARRE – The Wilkes University women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 win over King's College, not losing more than three games in singles play to improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in Freedom Conference play.
In doubles action,
Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, Pa./ELCO) teamed up to beat Maria Cometa and Jen Bader, 8-0 at the No. 3 spot, while
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and
Kristin Wilt (Milton, Pa./Milton) made it 2-0 in favor of the Lady Colonels with an 8-1 win at the No. 2 spot.
At No. 1 doubles,
Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) and
Alison McDonald (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) took down Jillan Tallarico and Diana Darby to make it 3-0 before singles play.
In singles action, McDonald gave Wilkes a 4-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set win over Christy Rossowski at the No. 3 position. Knight clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Lauren Breen at the No. 5 spot.
Bybel and Zhang remain undefeated at the top two spots, with Bybel winning her match 6-0, 6-2, while Zhang won her contest 6-1, 6-0.
