Wilkes University field hockey players Kerry Battersby (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) and Gina Elmy (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./G.A.R.) have been honored by womensfieldhockey.com after leading the Lady Colonels to one of their most successful seasons in school history. 

 

Battersby, a senior from Swedesboro, N.J., was named third team All-American by the site, while Elmy, a freshman Wilkes-Barre, was named to the All-Rookie squad. 

 

Battersby has been a mainstay on the field for the Lady Colonels for the past four years. She has been credited with four assists from her defensive position. A first team All-Freedom Conference selection as a junior and senior, Battersby has helped Wilkes garner its first national ranking in school history. 

 

Elmy was a key member of the Lady Colonel offense starting all 22 games where she scored two goals while picking up six assists. Elmy scored the first goal of her collegiate career against No. 11 Montclair State, helping Wilkes to a 3-1 win over the Red Hawks. 

 

Wilkes finished the year with an 18-4 overall record and a trip to the ECAC Championship, where the Lady Colonels fell to Kean in the finals.
