PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Wilkes women's tennis team remained undefeated this season with a 7-2 win over Manhattanville and is now 4-0 in Freedom Conference play.
The only two losses for the Lady Colonels were a result of walk-overs because they were unable to travel enough players due to classroom conflicts.
In doubles play, the tandem of
Victoria Bybel (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and
Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) tied the score at one with an 8-1 win over Paisley Coates and Scarlette Rodriguez.
Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and
Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, Pa./ELCO) made it 2-1 with an 8-3 win over Julia Romano and Danielle Waldron at the No. 2 spot.
In singles play,
Stephanie Harkins (Larksville, Pa./Holy Redeemer) gave Wilkes the lead for good at the No. 5 spot with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Annie Jaeger, while Knight won her match over Waldron, 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 3 position.
Shanaman clinched the match for the Lady Colonels with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Romano at the No. 4 position, while Zhang was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the No. 2 spot over Rodriguez. Bybel closed out singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Paisley Coates at the No. 1 spot.
Wilkes will return home Monday when it hosts Misericordia at 3:30 p.m. in Edwardsville.
