WAYNE, N.J. – The Wilkes University field hockey team jumped out to a 2-1 halftime lead, but four unanswered goals by William Paterson lifted it to a 5-2 victory, handing the Lady Colonels their second loss of the season.
Jodi Feriod gave William Paterson an early lead just over four minutes in with an unassisted goal. Twelve minutes later,
Jenna DiSabatino (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) scored her 11th goal of the season on a shot from the middle of the circle to tie the contest at one.
Amanda Peters (Catasauqua/Catasauqua) gave Wilkes a 2-1 advantage at the 22 minute mark when she scored off a deflection of goalie Christina Auger for her fourth goal of the season. Wilkes would hold on to the lead into halftime, out-shooting William Paterson 4-3 in the first period.
The second half would be a different story for William Paterson as it scored four unanswered goals, including the game-winner by Chelsea Winkelspecht at the 52nd minute.
Unlike the first half, William Paterson was able to get 11 shots off while holding Wilkes to two. DiSabatino had two of the Lady Colonels four shots on goal, while
Jennifer Keegan (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) and Peters had the other two.
Wilkes fell to 8-2 on the year, while William Paterson improved to 5-6 on the season. The Lady Colonels will be back in action Wednesday when they hit the road to take on Ithaca.
