The Wilkes University women's basketball team competed in its second contest in the Elizabethtown tournament on Saturday, falling to Cabrini by a final score of 62-50 despite a double-double by sophomore
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen).
The game took a sour turn for the Lady Colonels early on, as Cabrini went on a 17-0 run in the first seven minutes of the game and never looked back. Wilkes would work on the 17 point hole, and at the half found itself trailed 31-20 despite hitting less than 26% of its shots from the field.
The Lady Colonels would come as close as nine points in the second half, but could never mount a run to gain the lead. Wilkes was down as much as 19 points in the period, but the Cavaliers didn't make a field goal in the last 10 minutes, allowing the Lady Colonels to come back to within 12 before the final buzzer sounded.
Wilkes was led by
Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) with 20 points and 15 rebounds in only 26 minutes of play, including eight of 15 from the field and four of eight from the free thrown line.
Megan Kazmerski (Kingston, PA/Holy Redeemer) chipped in with 10 points, while
Lyndsay Ellis (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) had six points, three assists and three steals.
For her efforts in the tournament, Kazmerski was selected to the All-Tournament team. In two games she accounted for 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Colonels.
With the loss, Wilkes is now 2-9 on the season, and will look to pick up its third win against Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday, Jan. 6. That game will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Annville, Pa.
