Gosse puts in a team-high 10 points for the Lady Colonels

Manhattanville put in 43 second half points and used a combined scoring attack to take a 71-57 win over Wilkes University in Freedom Conference action. 
 
Nine different players scored for the Valiants, including a game-high 16 by Olivia Nastasi, pushing Manhattanville to 13-9 overall and 9-4 in league play. Chelsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Dieruff) put in 10 points to lead the Lady Colonels, who fell to 10-12 overall and 5-9 in conference games. 
 
The Lady Colonels jumped out to a 6-1 lead, taking advantage of cold shooting by the Valiants, who didn't hit their first field goal until Nastasi hit a layup at the 15:07 mark. Wilkes took a six-point lead, its largest of the game, at the eight-minute mark when Gosse put in a layup capping off a 9-0 run that lasted over three minutes. 
 
Wilkes would hold the lead nearly the entire half until Courtney Turner gave Manhattanville a 25-23 advantage with 1:29 to go in the first half after making a layup. Samantha Simcox (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) would tie the game at 25 with under a minute to play before the Valiants scored the final three points of the half to take a 28-25 lead at the half. 
 
The two teams would exchange buckets in the second half before the Lady Colonels finally tied the game at 37 with 14:03 to go before Brittany Ely (Montrose, Pa./Montrose) gave Wilkes a brief lead after sinking a free throw. 
 
Carey Hickey quickly gave the Valiants the lead back with a layup that started a 9-0 run giving them a 47-38 advantage with 10:38 to play. Manhattanville eventually jumped out to a double-digit lead with 5:58 to go. They would keep their double-figure cushion the rest of the way. 
 
The Valiants took advantage of Wilkes' mistakes, scoring 32 points off turnovers and pulled down 44 rebounds, 21 of which were on the offensive side. 
 
While Gosse was the only Wilkes player to score in double-figures, Simcox and Lindsey Gosse (Allentown, Pa./Allen) added nine. The Lady Colonels will remain at home Saturday when they host Alvernia at 1 p.m. in the Marts Center.
