Dengler's two-run double sparks Colonels

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Wilkes jumped out to a 3-0 lead, all coming in the fourth inning, but St. Mary's rallied to score seven runs over the final two innings to take an 8-3 win in the third game of the series. 
 
The Seahawks banged out 10 hits, including a double and two triples to improve to 6-3 on the year, while the Colonels picked up six hits, including a double by Randy Dengler (Ashland, Pa./Tri-Valley ). The loss dropped the Colonels to 1-2 on the year. 
 
The Colonels broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth after pounding out three hits, including Dengler's two-run double to left field. Andrew Garofoli (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) led off the inning with a single to left field before John Florance (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Forks) was hit by a pitch. Dengler's double would score both Garofoli and Florance and would reach third on the throw home. Matt Ruch (Dallas, Pa./Holy Redeemer ) would plate Dengler for the third run of the inning after grounding out to short. 
 
St. Mary's responded with a single run in the bottom of the fifth on three hits, but Mark Siebel (Rumson, NJ/Rumson Fair Haven) struck out Mark Dittilio to end the inning. The Seahawks picked up three hits in the inning and left the bases loaded. Both teams would leave seven runners stranded for the game. 
 
The Seahawks exploded for three runs in the seventh off two hits, including a two-run triple by Matt Baden. They would tack on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth on three hits. 
 
Garofoli finished the day with a pair of hits and a run scored, while Geoff Miller (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville), Trevin Jaggars (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Eric Wetzel (New Berlin, N.J./Mifflinburg) all singled. 
 
Wilkes starter Mike Brennan (New Ringgold, Pa./Marian Catholic) went four scoreless innings giving up two hits in the no decision. Siebel picked up in the loss after tossing two innings, giving up three runs off three hits while striking out one. 
 
The Colonels will remain on the road when they head to Aston, Pa. to take on Neumann in a double header on March 1.
