IMMACULATA – Melissa Polchinski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) was a one-person wrecking crew as she out-scored the entire Immaculata team, leading Wilkes to a 17-6 victory. Polchinski poured in seven goals to lead the Lady Colonels to their second-straight win.
Five different players scored for the Lady Colonels, who are enjoying their first 2-0 start under head coach Kammie Studley.
Brittney Hodnik (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) and Amelia Farnham each had three goals, while
Kat Edwards (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) and
Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) added two a piece. Hodnik had a game-high four assists while Edwards chipped in with three.
Tilley put the Lady Colonels on the board first with an unassisted goal six minutes into the contest. Hodnik quickly made it 2-0 with an assist from Farhnam less than a minute later. Wilkes jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Claire Lichty put Immaculata on the board at the 16 minute mark.
Wilkes took a commanding 10-3 lead at the half with four goals coming from Polchinski. Twenty-eight seconds into the second half, Farnham gave the Lady Colonels an 11-3 lead after scoring a goal with an assist from Edwards.
The Lady Colonels out-shot Immaculata 26-21 and had 13 draw controls to 11.
Goal keeper Allie Zukuft picked up the win for the Lady Colonels playing the first half, while
Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) picked up five saves in the second half.
The home opener for Wilkes will come on Thursday when it hosts Sage at 4 p.m. in Edwardsville.
