For the second time this season, the Wilkes University lacrosse team scored more than 20 points with a 22-5 victory over Medaille. Ten different players scored at least one goal, while three players scored four goals each.
The win improves the Lady Colonels to 4-1 on the year and they have now out-scored their opponents 91-36 and the 22 goals against Medaille marks the most goals Wilkes has scored this season.
Brittney Hodnik (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton), Melissa Polchinksi and Jordan Brown poured in four goals each for Wilkes, while
Kat Edwards (Windsor, Conn./Windsor),
Stephanie Harkins (Larksville, Pa./Holy Redeemer) and
Analicia Jost (Mt. Ephraim, N.J./Gloucester Catholic) put in two each. The Lady Colonels out-shot the Mavericks 38-12 and won 19 of 25 draw controls.
Polchinski scored her first goal 15 seconds into the game as she drove through the Maverick defense to give the Lady Colonels the early lead. Wilkes would score five-straight goals before Jodi Lang put Medaille on the board with a goal at the 21:30 mark. The Mavericks would not score again until Corrine Nasca scored one of her three goals on the day with 9:21 to go in the first. By that time, the Lady Colonels built a 10-2 lead, including two man-up goals.
Wilkes would eventually take a 14-2 lead at the break, including an
Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) goal with eight seconds to play before the half for her only score of the game.
Medaille kept it close in the second half scoring three of its five goals in the period while holding the Lady Colonels to eight.
The contest was the first of the season for the Mavericks, who fall to 0-1 on the year, while the Lady Colonels are enjoying their best start in school history. Wilkes needs just two more victories to tie last year's total.
Wilkes will host FDU-Florham at 1 p.m. in Edwardsville Saturday in Freedom Conference action.
