GLENSIDE – The Wilkes University women's lacrosse team won their second game in a row on Saturday, defeating conference foe Arcadia University 21-11.

With the win, the Lady Colonels now improve to 6-3 on the season and 2-2 in the conference, equaling their win total for the entire 2008 season. Meanwhile, the Knights see their record slide to 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the MAC.

Melissa Polchinski (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) scored the first goal of the game just 2:04 into the contest and Wilkes would never trail the rest of the way. The first half saw Arcadia tie the game on three separate occasions, but the Lady Colonels would answer every time and would take the lead for good at 5-4 when Amanda Tilley (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) took a feed from Polchinski and found the back of the net about halfway through the opening stanza. Wilkes would settle at a 10-6 advantage going into the half.

The Lady Colonels and the Knights traded goals back and forth over the first 14 minutes of the second half before Stephanie Holguin scored the second straight for Arcadia to pull them within three at 13-10 at the 44:29 mark. However, Wilkes would send their play into another gear, scoring eight straight goals to put the game away.

For the game, Brittney Hodnik (Binghamton, N.Y./Binghamton) led all scorers with seven goals and two assists, while Polchinski added five goals and four helpers. Kat Edwards (Windsor, Conn./Windsor) tallied four scores, Tilley added a hat-trick, while Jordan Brown scored twice and assisted on one other for Wilkes. Cassie Cronin (Manchester, NH/Manchester Memorial) earned the win after playing the majority of the game and making nine saves, while Allie Zukuft made two saves between the pipes as well.

Holguin scored three goals to lead Arcadia, while Melanie Mark chipped in with two scores and one assist. Shannon Bustin and Kreena Patel each scored twice, Jenni Groves had a goal and an assist, Megan Madison scored once, while Erin Cunningham had two helpers. Evelyn Ciaburri stopped 21 shots for the Knights in the losing effort.

The Lady Colonels will look to extend their win streak on Wednseday when they host Misericordia in more MAC action starting at 4 p.m.
