READING – It is now 12-straight for the Wilkes University women's tennis team which took a 9-0 win over PSU Berks. Not only did the Lady Colonels remain perfect this season, but they did it in fine fashion by not losing more than two games in any singles match.

In doubles play, the duo of Alison McDonald (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) and Anna Mitchell (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) gave Wilkes a 1-0 lead after an 8-3 win over Aimee Hoffman and Holly Woodcock at the No. 1 spot. The win for Mitchell was the first of her collegiate career. At No. 2 doubles, Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, Pa./ELCO) gave Wilkes a 2-0 lead after their 8-2 win over Ashley Averbach and Ashton Romero. A forfeit at the No. 3 position gave Wilkes a sweep in doubles play and a 3-0 lead.

In singles, a forfeit at the No. 6 spot would give the Lady Colonels a 4-0 lead before Katie Buckley (Danville, Pa./Danville) improved to 8-2 this year with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Steph Williams at the No. 5 position. Shanaman remained perfect this season and is now 4-0 after her 6-0, 6-1 win over Romero at No. 4 while Kristin Wilt (Milton, Pa./Milton) extended her record to 9-1 with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Hoffman at the No. 2 position.

Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) took down Woodcock 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 before McDonald extended her unbeaten streak to nine with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1.

No Lady Colonel has lost more than two matches this year with Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) leading the way with an 11-0 mark. Knight reached double-digit victories and is now 10-1 on the year.

Wilkes will try to make it 13 in a row when it hosts Scranton on Wednesday, April 8 at 3:30 p.m.
