The Wilkes University women's tennis team will make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the second-straight season after they defeated Misericordia 5-0 in the Freedom Conference Championship Finals.

The Lady Colonels got a big boost from its doubles teams as they won all three contests to take a 3-0 lead. Michelle Knight (Washington, Pa./Trinity) and Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, Pa./ELCO) took a quick 8-1 win over Jennifer Spott and Lauren Verette. Victoria Bybel (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and Kristin Wilt (Milton, Pa./Milton) would make it 2-0 with their 8-3 win over Maura Haupt and Courtney Otto. Xiaoqiao Zhang (Zhengzhou City, China/Warren Hills (N.J.)) and Alison McDonald (Duncannon, Pa./Susquenita) completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Abby Searfoss and Ashley Mangabang at the No. 1 spot.

Wilkes needed to win just two singles matches and did in less than an hour as Shanaman defeated Ellyn Wingert 6-1, 6-0, before Bybel, who was named the tournament's most valuable player, took down Searfoss 6-2, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot.

The Lady Colonels will find out who and where they play next week. They are currently 16-0 this season with 11 sweeps.
