The Wilkes University men's soccer team hosted Elizabethtown Sunday, surrendering four second-half goals to fall by a score of 5-1. Elizabethtown entered the game with a record of 5-0 and handed the Colonels their fifth loss of the year.

In the first half each team had excellent scoring opportunities, but only Elizabethtown was able to take advantage. In the 11th minute Luke Mitchell found Geoff Cochrane for the first goal of the game, a lead the Blue Jays would never lose. Wilkes goalie Kaleb Smith (Beavertown, Pa./Medd-West) saved six shots in the half.

Elizabethtown scored within the first two minutes of the second half on a penalty kick by Cameron Gettel, and added another goal in the 66th minute to go up 3-0.

The Colonels only score on the day occurred in the 72nd minute on a deep shot by Arthur Jankowski (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) to reduce the lead to two, but the Blue Jays would score two more goals with less than six minutes left to secure the victory, 5-1.

Wilkes was out-shot on the day 23-10, and Colonel goalkeeping saved 10 of Elizabethtown's 15 shots on goal.

Wilkes will have an opportunity to turn their season around against Baptist Bible on Thursday, Sept. 24 at Ralston Field. The game will begin at 4:00 pm.
