WILKES-BARRE – Wilkes University is preparing to compete in the 2010 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Women's Individual Tennis Championships this weekend, October 9-10. Several members of the Lady Colonels will be participating in the championships, which are hosted by Wilkes and King's College at the Ralston Athletic Complex tennis courts as well as the courts at Kirby Park.

Melanie Nolt (Manheim, Manheim Central) will get the nod for the Lady Colonels at the no. 1 singles spot. Last year's MAC individual champion at the same position, Nolt went 2-1 in singles play last week against Division II competition while playing at the Bloomsburg Fall Classic.

Playing at no. 2 singles will be Victoria Bybel (Lancaster, Lancaster Mennonite), who went 1-2 in singles competition at Bloomsburg. She'll be followed by Allison Kristofco (Hollidaysburg , Bishop Guilfoyle), who made her collegiate debut last weekend with a 6-4, 6-1 win over an opponent from Indiana (PA). Rebekah Shanaman (Richland, ELCO), who went 8-4 last year playing in the no. 5 and no. 6 spots, will be the Lady Colonels no. 4 singles player this weekend.

Alexis Donner (Belmar, NJ, Wall) was the no. 4 singles MAC champion last year, will be in the no. 5 spot on Saturday, while Amanda Holyk (Scranton, Scranton Prep) will receive her first collegiate postseason nod at the no. 6 spot.

In doubles competition, Nolt will look again to repeat as the champion as she teams with Bybel in Wilkes top pairing. Kristofco and Donner will go for the Lady Colonels in the second group while Shanaman and Michelle Knight (Roaming Shores, OH, Trinity), who are two-time doubles champions, will be the third pair.

As a team, Wilkes is looking for a repeat of last season's individual performances as the Lady Colonels won seven of the nine brackets. The championships will begin at 9:00 a.m. on both days of competition, as the semifinals and the finals will be held on Sunday.
