SLIPPERY ROCK – Michelle Wakeley (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) (Endicott, N.Y., Union-Endicott) for the women and Austin Loukas (Windham, Maine, Windham) for the men were the top runners on each side for the Colonels as Wilkes University competed in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional on Saturday at Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock. The men ran an 8k course while the women's route was 6k.
Wakeley crossed the finish line in a time of 24:05, good for 56th overall out of 299 total runners. The junior runner for the Lady Colonels was followed by Kara Engle (Hamlin, N.Y., Hilton), who ran a 27:14, and Olivia Waszkiewicz (Sauquoit, N.Y., Sauquoit), who finished with a time of 27:47.
Laura Nulton (Laceyville, Elk Lake), Molly McDonough (Scranton, Pa., Scranton), Stephanie Smith (Drums, Pa., Hazleton) and Kirstin Cook (Windham, Ma., Windham) also ran on the women's side, finishing with times of 27:55, 29:55, 30:34 and 31:05, respectively.
On the men's side, Loukas posted a time of 30:06 as Matthew Buono (Goshen, N.Y., Goshen) was close behind, coming in at 30:25. Mark Ricci (West Chester, Pa., Baynard Rustin) was the third Wilkes finisher, coming in with a time of 32:58. Jeff Kinney (Kingston, Pa, Coughlin) and Chris Manzi (Toms River, N.J., Toms River North) were other Wilkes finishers, coming in a t 36:18 and 36:58, respectively.
With this meet, Wilkes finishes up its 2010 season. Wakeley was the top female finisher in all nine of the Lady Colonels meets, winning two Middle Atlantic Conference runner of the week awards. Loukas was the top men's finisher five times during the season while Buono took the Wilkes top spot twice.
