Women's Cross Country Takes Third, Men Finish Sixth at Cougar Classic

DALLAS, Pa. – The Wilkes University men's and women's cross country teams made the short jaunt up to Misericordia University to compete in the Cougar Classic on Saturday morning.

The women's six-kilometer race went out first, and Wilkes finished third out of five teams with 102 points. Julia Lewis (Hanover Township, PA/Wyoming Seminary) was the top Colonel, placing 16th with a time of 28:45.50 Lewis was closely followed by Anna Glass, who finished 18th with a time of 30:45.70. Ava O'Shield (Hoschton, GA/Mill Creek)s recorded a 20th place finish with a time of 32:38.80, while Audrey Cornell (Clarks Summit, PA/Abington Heights) took 22nd with a time of 33:30.90. Brianna Wright (Harveys Lake, PA/Lake Lehman) rounded out the Colonels' lineup finishing 26th with a time of 39:53.50.

The men's eight-kilometer race followed 45 minutes later, and the Colonels placed sixth out of six teams with 132 points. Jack Thompson (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) had his first top-five finish of the year, finishing fifth with a time of 27:40.50. Daniel Elkin (West Wyoming, PA/Wyoming Area) followed Thompson with a 25th place finish and a time of 31:11.00. Lesley Griglak (Great Meadows, NJ/Hackettstown) finished 27th at 32:29.20. Brett Martinez (Hanover Township, PA/Hanover Area) placed 35th with a time of 34:25.30, and Damien Muffolini wrapped up the Colonels' scoring in 40th place with a time of 44:36.00.

Misericordia finished first in both races, with 15 points in the women's race and 41 points in the men's race.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, Sept. 26, for the Lock Haven University Invite. The meet will commence at 10:00 a.m.
